Catherine Élise Blanchett AC (born 14 May 1969), commonly known as Cate Blanchett, is an Australian actress, producer, and theater director. She is considered one of the greatest actresses of her generation, having won two Academy Awards, three British Academy Film Awards, three Screen Actors Guild Awards, and three Golden Globe Awards.
Blanchett was born in Melbourne, Australia, to June Gamble, an Australian teacher, and Robert Blanchett, an advertising executive. She began her acting career in Australian theater in the early 1990s, before gaining international recognition for her roles in films such as Elizabeth (1998), The Aviator (2004), and Blue Jasmine (2013).
