Ryan Garcia Denies Steroid Use After ESPN Report
Garcia Tests Positive for Ostarine
Ryan Garcia has vehemently denied using performance-enhancing drugs after ESPN reported that he tested positive for the banned substance ostarine twice. The 22-year-old boxer won his fight against Devin Haney, but the victory has been overshadowed by the allegations.
Garcia's Statement
Garcia issued a statement through his lawyers, stating that he has "never knowingly ingested any banned substances" and that he is "confident that he will be cleared of any wrongdoing."
The statement also criticized ESPN's reporting, claiming that the network's sources had "misrepresented the facts" and that the positive tests were a result of contaminated supplements.
VADA Letter
According to a VADA (Voluntary Anti-Doping Association) letter obtained by ESPN, Garcia tested positive for ostarine on July 11, 2021, the day before his fight with Haney, and again on July 12, the day of the fight.
Ostarine is a selective androgen receptor modulator (SARM) that is used to build muscle and improve performance. It is banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).
Investigation Ongoing
The investigation into Garcia's positive tests is ongoing. The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) has suspended Garcia's license pending the outcome of the investigation.
If Garcia is found guilty of using banned substances, he could face a significant suspension from boxing.
