Steve LeBlanc AP A Massachusetts teen who participated in a spicy tortilla chip challenge on social media died from ingesting a high quantity of capsaicin, the chemical that gives chili peppers their heat.
Harris Wolobah, a previously healthy 14-year-old from Worcester, died September 1, 2023, hours after eating the chip—a 2023 Paqui One Chip Challenge.
Wolobah's family was correct according to an autopsy report obtained by the Associated Press. The high school sophomore died on Sept. 1, 2023, from a cardiac arrhythmia brought on by eating the chip.
